Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — 60 new citizens will be welcomed during a special naturalization ceremony Wednesday at the Old State Capitol

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois are holding the event.

U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless will administer the Oath of Allegiance.

The candidates come from 25 countries: Algeria, Angola, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Congo (Kinshasa), Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jordan, South Korea, Mauritania, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and Vietnam.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services often holds naturalization ceremonies at notable civic locations to celebrate the conclusion of the persons journey to citizenship and honor their commitment to their new home.

Special venues not only make these events meaningful for those who have voluntarily chosen to participate in American democracy and dedicated themselves to the country’s future, but they also reflect the strength and spirit of the United States.

The ceremony is at 11 a.m. and the Old State Capitol is located at 526 E. Adams St
