Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Illinois Springfield has been named the top public regional university in Illinois by U.S. News & World Report. In the 2025 Best Colleges rankings released Tuesday, UIS also placed seventh as the best public regional university in the Midwest.

Gooch. “It highlights our commitment to student success and reinforces UIS as a leading choice for those seeking a high-quality education, whether through online learning or on-campus experiences, all backed by our outstanding faculty and staff.”
Graduation and retention rates as well as financial aid, faculty salaries, and student-to-faculty ratios are among the ranking criteria.
UIS also ranked 10th in the Midwest for best value and 13th in the Midwest among the best colleges for veterans.
