Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The University of Illinois Springfield Performing Arts Center has been closed for the better part of a year to replace plumbing and seating in the center.

Now, the red carpet is coming back out, as shows are being announced for the upcoming season.

There may not be as many seats now that the renovation is pretty much done, but Marketing Manager Jen Tibbs tells the WTAX Morning Newswatch that’s just fine with her.

“We were able to put aisles in, which I know a lot of people went across those 60 seats in a row (to get to their seats), knocking over their drinks,” said Tibbs.  “We did lose 200 seats or so, but it’s amazing.  It looks so good.

Tibbs says the new seats in Sangamon Auditorium are larger, and have cup holders, and longtime patrons have already reserved some of the new aisle seats that have been created.

This comes as the center is announcing five shows in its Broadway series.
