This Week in UIS Athletics: Men’s & Women’s Basketball

Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW)The UIS basketball teams are back at the TRAC this week, each hosting an opponent for single games on separate days.

Wednesday, Dec. 11
6:00 p.m. – Men’s Basketball vs. Kentucky Wesleyan
UIS (4-5, 1-3 GLVC) returns to action on Wednesday evening, hosting the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (4-2, 0-0 GMAC). The Panthers are riding a four-game winning streak over the past three weeks, with victories against two NCAA Division II opponents, an NCAA Division III team, and an NAIA program. Kentucky Wesleyan holds a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series, though the Prairie Stars claimed the most recent matchup in November 2023.

Saturday, Dec. 14
1:00 p.m Women’s Basketball vs. Parkside
UIS (0-8, 0-4 GLVC) hosts the Parkside Rangers (5-3, 1-1 GLIAC) in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at TRAC. Parkside is 2-1 against GLVC opponents this season and 3-2 in their last five games. The Rangers hold a 13-1 advantage in the all-time series, with the Prairie Stars’ last victory coming in 2014. In their most recent meeting, Parkside earned an 84-76 win at TRAC in November 2022. UIS fell to Maryville and McKendree in their last two games over the weekend, and hunts for its first win of the season.

Looking Ahead at Winter Break
The Prairie Stars will host three home events over winter break, including one standalone women’s game and two GLVC doubleheaders.
Thursday, Jan. 2: Women’s basketball takes on St. Ambrose at 6 p.m.
Thursday, Jan. 9: Truman State visits Springfield for a doubleheader with games at 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men).
Saturday, Jan. 11: UIS faces Quincy in a BOS Cup rivalry doubleheader, tipping off at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men).
