Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A number of activities at Springfield’s Lincoln Library this month will be especially for teens, including packages that will contain books they want to read.  Lana Shovlin, Public Relations Manager with the library, talks about all of it with Will Stevenson on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.

The American Library Association has dubbed October, “Teentober” and one of the ways the Lincoln Library is celebrating is with a Teen Book Box. Lana Shovlin explained that, “our Teen Librarian Carly created these Teen Book Boxes and teens just have to go online; they fill out a quick survey about what kind of books they have liked in the past, and then Carly will go out into our collection and hand pick 2 books for the teenager, put them in a box, and then there’s all sorts of little things in there like stickers, and you can choose tea or hot chocolate.” To fill out the survey for a Teen Book Box click here. Teens can pick up their books at the Youth Services Desk in the Library and check them out as they normally would.

The Lincoln Library also has an itinerary of events planned to celebrate. On Wednesday October 15th there is a KPop Demon Hunters Party, on the 16th there is the first LGBTQ+ Youth Book Club with The Phoenix Center, and Teen Dungeons & Dragons on the 22nd. Check out the library’s website for more upcoming events and to place your vote in the Lincoln Library Staff Pumpkin Decorating Contest.

Shovlin also stated, “it’s so fulfilling to look and see kids connecting and being off their screens”. She also wants to make sure everyone knows there are always snacks.
