Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – In a recent study done by the American Farm Bureau Federation, it was learned that it may be cheaper to purchase thanksgiving dinner for a family meal of 10 people this year compared to recent years.

Illinois Farm Bureau‘s Tasha Bunting spoke on the WTAX Morning Newswatch and told us Illinois residents some good news about the upcoming meal and the lowered cost of supplies.

“Every year, the American Farm Bureau Federation conducts a survey all across the U.S. where they have shoppers go out and buy or price the staple items for a Thanksgiving dinner for 10, and this year compared to last year, has reduced a little bit more so it’s been a little bit better on everybody’s pocketbook.” said Bunting “The number this year is $55.18 nationwide, which is around $5.52, per person. In Illinois, our survey showed results of $49.20 for that same meal for 10. So, Illinois gets a little bit more of a break than several other states.”

In her interview, Bunting also mentioned what makes the prices reduce has to do with the infamous thanksgiving turkey.

Bunting stated “We saw a significant decline in the price of turkey over last year, for a lot of different reasons, one of them being that our turkey houses and turkey farmers this year didn’t see quite as a significant impact from the bird flu that they had seen previously. So, they were able to backup and supply a lot of birds in frozen storage, that were able to transcend into a little bit lesser of a price that you would have to pay for this year.”
