Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – University of Illinois Springfield and the union representing its faculty, announced e- in separate news releases early Monday – a tentative agreement that would suspend a strike. Class is in session Monday.

But University of Illinois Springfield United Faculty is unsparing in its criticism of Chancellor Janet Gooch. A statement from the union accuses her of being uncaring and that she, quoting the union, “intentionally prolonged this strike through her callous inaction.” The union is calling for Gooch to step aside. What’s more, the union news release called the suspension of the strike a “difficult decision” made in the interest of getting students back into class and preparing for finals.

Nevertheless, class is back on.

Revealing the tentative deal is for three years, the UIS news release says, “In the coming weeks, both parties will complete their respective approval processes. Full details of the contract terms will be available for public release following that process.”

The strike began April 3.
