(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has confirmed the identity of the second victim in a weekend shooting in Menard County. Authorities have now identified 15-year-old Grant Withers as the teenager who died after sustaining a gunshot wound.

The Menard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call for a shooting on Saturday afternoon in the 15000 block of Tice Road in Petersburg. Deputies arrived to find two individuals—Richard Withers, 40, and his son, Grant Withers—both suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to area hospitals with critical injuries.

Richard Withers was taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced clinically deceased on Sunday.

Grant Withers was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced clinically deceased on Tuesday. An autopsy conducted Wednesday confirmed that he died from the gunshot wound.

The case remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

A GoFundMe account in memory of Grant has been established. A fund to support the Withers family has also been established at Petefish, Skiles & Co.
