Teen dead after farm-related accident near Virden

Virden, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A teenager is dead after a farm equipment accident not far from the Sangamon-Macoupin County line Tuesday.

Our news partners at WAND-TV report the Macoupin County Coroner identifies the victim as Nolan Kiel, 16.

Authorities believe Kiel suffered an accident while using some equipment outside of Virden and was pronounced dead around noon.

Social media posts have expressed sympathies, and have encouraged things like candlelight vigils for the high school student. One is planned for Wednesday night.

An investigation into the death continues.
