Taylorville, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Taylorville man will spend most of the next 17 years in prison after he sexually abused a teen with disabilities.

Christian County Court records indicate while James Eiskant, 66, will only serve a total of years after pleading guilty Tuesday to Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, he had to be re-sentenced on two other felony cases he was serving probation on because of the plea, and those sentences will be served consecutively.

Our news partners at WAND-TV report a woman contacted Taylorville Police in July, 2023 about her 19-year-old grandson with a “severe intellectual disability,” which led to an investigation and Eiskant’s arrest.

In this case, prosecutors dropped Class X felony charges related to sexual assault in exchange for the plea.  He will receive credit for 769 days already served in jail.  He will serve five additional years in jail on a 2021 case where he pleaded guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine, and another five years where in a 2022 methamphetamine-related case.

“We acknowledge the diligent work of our State’s Attorney (John McWard) in bringing closure to the family in this matter through his tireless efforts,” said, in part, a Taylorville Police Department statement on social media. “Our appreciation is also extended to the TPD detectives who demonstrated remarkable dedication to this case.”
