Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – You may have heard about this: 2026 is the hundredth anniversary of Route 66. And the Illinois State Museum is the latest organization to get involved.

“Miles of Memories” is the name of an exhibit which will feature Mother Road-related interviews from the museum’s oral history collection. A news release says more than 100 people provided first-hand accounts of traveling on 66 to the project.

“This exhibit is a must-see for any fan of Route 66,” said the museum’s curator of history, Erika Holst, in the news release. “What sets it apart is the opportunity to hear memories of the Mother Road in the voices of the people who lived it.”

Also featured: souvenirs, neon signs, and iconic advertising. What would this kind of exhibit be without Burma Shave?

“Some of the stories featured in the exhibit cover topics that even seasoned Route 66 travelers may not have heard before,” said the museum’s registrar of history Amanda Bryden, in the news release. “There is something for everyone, regardless of familiarity with the road.”

The exhibit runs from May 23 to next April 4.
