Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Illinois State Police (ISP) say a 68-year-old Springfield man has been arrested on charges accusing him of having what they say is “child sexual abuse materials.”

According to ISP, Merle Monroe was arrested Monday.  He was charged by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney last week with multiple counts of Possession of Child Pornography, both Class 2 and Class 3 felonies.

An investigation started October 8.  ISP says with the help of the Illinois Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, “digital evidence” was gathered, and Monroe was identified as the suspect.

Monroe is in the Sangamon County Jail, awaiting court appearances.  Online court records are not yet available.
