Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield police sergeant is accused of driving while intoxicated. Sgt. Lindzee Carpenter was stopped in Chatham July 4.

Hours after the news broke first in the State Journal-Register, citizen Ken Pacha addressed the city council to allege special treatment for wayward cops. “We get 14-year-olds tackled in front of their family and friends for the suspicion of walking down the street in broad daylight,” said Pacha. “We see a 19-year-old get punched in the face by an officer who still laughs when people tell him, careful not to hit anybody. He thinks it’s funny, because the consequences were minor.”

The police department, though, suggests there will be repercussions against Carpenter. According to the SPD transparency page:

“On July 4, the Springfield Police Department was made aware that Sergeant Lindzee Carpenter was arrested for DUI by the Chatham Police Department. Sgt. Carpenter was immediately stripped of her police powers and placed on administrative leave. SPD opened up an internal affairs investigation pursuant to the parties’ collective bargaining agreement and will have no further comment until that investigation has concluded.”
