Second registered sex offender sought by Sangamon County arrested

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department had been looking for after he allegedly failed to register as a sex offender has been caught.

According to a news release, members of a U.S. Marshalls Task Force arrested Randall Knott, 55, was arrested at a Springfield home Thursday, and is jailed awaiting hearings on the allegations.

Knott reportedly had been located in Oklahoma, where authorities declined to arrest him, causing deputies to get a warrant.

On Monday, Frederick Britz, 60, was arrested on similar charges.

He’s slated to be in cout in two weeks on similar charges, and counts involving the stealing of a car.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in apprehending Knott,” said the news release. “Sheriff (Paula) Crouch also thanks the public for providing information that led to Knott’s swift apprehension.”
