Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Plans are in the works for two roundabouts, which would double the city’s roundabout count.

Michelle Ownbey, publisher of the Springfield Business Journal, told the WTAX Morning Newswatch Thursday that one of the traffic-slowing circles is planned for just west of the Harvest Market entrance at West White Oaks Drive, to be completed this year. The city council considered three ordinances on Tuesday that would inv land acquisition,” said Ownbey. “I assume probably some easements and that sort of thing. So, if you can picture the sort of near-death experience intersection there at West White Oaks Drive if you are coming out of the Harvest Market parking lot and trying to take a left and proceed onto Wabash Avenue, you are sort of taking your life in your hands.”

Ownbey said, according to Springfield chief city engineer Nate Bottom, another could go near the South Sixth Street Walmart, connecting Eleventh Street, Lincolnshire Boulevard, and Hazel Dell Road.
