Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield alderwoman who in July brought complaints about Republic Services‘ overcharging customers now says there’s progress in getting things straightened out.

Ald. Erin Conley said some residents had been charged not the city-contracted $15, but $50 per month.”I have had a number of people reach out and send screenshots of bills and then explain how they have been paying much more than $15 a month for waste that fell within the restrictions of the city ordinance,” Conley said Tuesday. “I would like just to update everybody that Republic has been very responsive. I’ve heard from people who have already gotten credits on their bills.”

Another alderwoman called for accountability. “I think it’s their due diligence to bring us a report, because if we didn’t catch Republic Services, they would still be continuing to charge people over and over,” said Ald. Lakeisha Purchase. “I’m really interested to see how far back this goes.”

Purchase said she wants Republic to send a representative to a future council meeting.
