Police: Video shows Taylorville man beating puppy to death

Taylorville, IL (WAND) – A Taylorville man has been arrested after police said he killed a puppy.

The Taylorville Police Department took a call Thursday from a person who said they had witnessed a puppy being killed.

Joseph A Leckner, 35, was taken into custody.

Detectives took evidence of what police called “a disturbing case.”

Taylorville police told WAND News Leckner beat the puppy to death and said there is video of the attack.

Leckner is charged with Animal Cruelty. He was ordered held in jail and will have a hearing on Monday.

Taylorville police said Leckner has a long criminal history.
