Person rescued from balcony of apartment fire in Springfield

Springfield, IL (WAND) – A person was rescued after getting trapped on a balcony of an apartment building on fire in Springfield.

Springfield firefighters were called to the 400 block of Durkin Dr. around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37 posted there was heavy smoke from the eaves with a person needing rescued off the balcony. Extra crews were requested.

Heavy fire was reported from the roof of the building. Firefighters said the roof has collapsed in one of the apartments.

An update was posted by the fire union around 1:30 p.m. saying the fire is under control and overhaul operations are underway.
