The incident forced the Jacksonville school district to close the middle school for the day.

Police say they were called to a report of a domestic battery at a home in the 700 block of Park St around 1:30 a.m. Friday. Jacksonville’s Special Response Team and Illinois State Police SWAT officers got involved. Police say Thomas Loughary, 37, surrendered around 11:30 a.m. after negotiations with police.

Charges include domestic battery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a weapon after his FOID Card was revoked.

Police say the domestic battery victim was checked out at the hospital and released. Otherwise, no injuries are reported.
