Springfield, IL (WAND) – Two parents in Springfield were arrested Thursday after police said their four children were home alone and living in poor conditions.

35-year-old Kwain Karrick and 32-year-old Hollie Bracco are facing charges of child abandonment and endangering the life/health of a child.

The Springfield Police Department told WAND News that officers responded to a welfare check at a home in the 2200 block of Catalina Lane just after 12 a.m.

When they arrived, police said they found a 12-year-old, 7-year-old, 4-year-old and 2-year old home alone.

According to the department, the home was full of trash, animal waste, and bugs. Police also said the home had insufficient food and sleeping arrangements.

Officers determined that the living conditions posed a risk for the health and safety of the children. They contacted Bracco and Kerrick and told them to return to the home, where they were arrested.

It is unclear when Bracco or Kerrick will next appear in court.
