Lincoln, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It turns out that three tornadoes were on the ground at different points during two severe weather outbreaks in Central Illinois Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service and storm survey reports, of those, one was in this area. And it was the one that was the strongest and traveled the farthest.

Their survey indicates it was an EF-2 tornado that started near the Macon/Christian County line, and traveled 23.6 miles.  Peak winds were near 120 miles per hour.

Forecasters say the tornado was weak until it got to about Elwin, but then started snapping trees and causing home and roof damage. At least one garage, the Weather Service says, was picked up and tossed about a block away.  No injuries have been reported.

Of the other two tornadoes, one was one near Groveland in Tazewell County and rated EF-1.  It was on the ground less than two miles, had maximum winds of 98 miles per hour.

Another confirmed tornado was reported in Redmon in Edgar County, and rated EF-0.  It had maximum winds of 80 miles per hour, traveled a quarter of a mile, and caused minor damage.
