Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Now there’s another way to renew your Illinois driver’s license or license plates. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has introduced self-serve kiosks at locations throughout the state including Meijer at 4200 Conestoga Drive in Springfield.

The roll out of the “Fast-Lane” DMV kiosks as part of a pilot program including 15 kiosks located in Chicago, the suburbs and downstate in Mariano’s, Jewel-Osco, Kroger and Meijer grocery stores.

“This is a big step in our ongoing effort to modernize the office and enable Illinoisans to obtain more services online and remotely without having to visit a DMV,” said Giannoulias.

Renewal can be completed by scanning a notice letter or entering a driver’s license or ID number and entering a renewal notice PIN. Kiosks accept credit, debit and contactless forms of payment.

License plate stickers or temporary driver’s license/identification will print immediately. A new driver’s license/ID will arrive in the mail within 15 business days. There is an additional fee to use the kiosks including a $4.95 processing fee and a 2.25% fee for credit card users.

The kiosks offer service in English and Spanish, but Giannoulias said the plan is to increase the number of languages available in the future.

New applicants for driver or vehicle services – including those applying for a REAL ID – will still be required to make an in-person DMV visit.
