Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Travel ball teams from miles around are expected to use the new Scheels Sports Park – once it’s built in Springfield. The new general manager, introduced Tuesday, is Brandon Doherty (pictured, at microphone). He says the complex is poised for success.

“Based on some of the things that I’ve seen to this point, people want to be able to come to a nice facility that’s safe, that’s functional; and in Springfield, we have some of those things, but this will be a centralized location.

“Higher-level demand for youth athletics is going to be good.”

Doherty previously ran a similar complex in Starkville, Miss.

The complex, north of the Scheels store along South MacArthur Boulevard is supposed to be open next year.
