Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The changing of the guard in the District 186 superintendent’s office is almost complete.

Sitting in the center chair in the board room halfway through Monday’s meeting meant something to incoming chief Terrance Jordan. “It was very emotional,” Jordan told the WTAX Morning Newswatch. “I’ve known Superintendent (Jennifer) Gill for twenty-plus years, and she has supported me a whole lot, so it was bittersweet. It was hard to watch her go, but I am excited for this next chapter in my life.”

Jordan says he is as ready as he can be. “I think I’m prepared to take over. I know that in this job you are always learning, so I am a continuous learner. Fortunately, they named me in February, so we have had a lot of time to work close together (on the transition), so I’m excited.”

Jordan is a more than twenty-year employee of the district and has most recently been assistant superintendent of family, community, and school leadership

Gill’s retirement takes effect the end of the month.
