Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – You can now see more photos of Abraham Lincoln than you might have thought could be possible, thanks to an update to an online collection.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum says in a news release nearly 500 new photos have been added to the “Picturing Lincon” online collection.  It’s hosted through the Illinois Secretary of State’s Illinois Digital Archives.

“Everyone everywhere should be able to dig into Abraham Lincoln’s history and his impact on the world. I’m proud of the team here at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum for working so hard to make these images available online,” said Christina Shutt, executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, in a news release.  The work was paid for through a grant from the Illinois State Library in the form of a $100,000 grant.

Among some of the new photos being featured, according to the museum:

  • Photos of assassin John Wilkes Booth and illustrations portraying him with the devil or showing him as a ghostly fugitive.
  • Images of the many places Lincoln lived, from log cabins to the White House.
  • Scenes related to Lincoln’s death, including photos of mourning crowds and illustrations of him in heaven with George Washington.

The museum says several thousand images had already been added to the collection, with the pictures available by CLICKING HERE.
