UPDATED 5:35 P.M.

The City of Springfield now says, in a news release, “Jay Underfanger will replace James Sullivan as Acting Director for the Office of Information Systems at the City of Springfield. Mr. Underfanger has been with the City of Springfield for 28 years.”

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher is lashing out at one of her department heads over his social media activity in the wake of last week’s assassination of conservative talker Charlie Kirk.

Unclear: whether the mayor’s social media statement (pictured) is the extent of any sanction that employee will face. Neither Buscher nor city spokeswoman Amanda Brown have responded to Capitol City Now’s requests for comment.

Multiple sources tell Capitol City Now the director in question is Jayme Sullivan, the city’s chief information officer. He has criticized Kirk for what Sullivan says are stances against Blacks, women, and LGBTQ people, as well as Kirk’s posts in favor of the Second Amendment. Kirk has said shooting deaths are acceptable losses for Americans to enjoy the freedoms they have.

These are two of several screenshots of a Facebook post by Sullivan, and responses he had to commenters.

Sullivan did not respond to a request for comment.
