Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Chicago man has been convicted of the attempted murder of an Illinois State Trooper who had stopped him in Springfield.

State’s Attorney John Milhiser says Christobal Santana, 39, was also convicted Wednesday of counts of Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Battery with a Weapon.

“This defendant is being held accountable for the horrific actions back on October 24, 2023, when, after a traffic stop by an Illinois State Trooper based on the license plate reader hit that this vehicle…was wanted on a homicide out of Chicago,” said Milhiser.

That homicide that turned out to be the death of his ex-girlfriend a couple days prior.

Trooper Dakotah Chapman Greene was seriously injured.

“Thankfully, that trooper received medical care at the time, was transferred to the hospital, and — after eight months of rehab, is back at work as an Illinois State Trooper,” said Milhiser.

Santana will be sentenced December 17th, but Milhiser says he’ll be transferred back to Chicago to stand trial there.
