Decatur, IL (WAND) – A Decatur murder suspect on the run for more than a week appears before a Macon County Judge for the first time.

On Tuesday afternoon, Latonian Johnson, 50, was arraigned on 3 counts first degree murder, 3 counts attempted murder, 2 counts aggravated battery.

According to Decatur Police, on August 20, officers responded to a report of an injured person at a home in the 1900 block of East Main Street. Officers found three victims who had been stabbed.

The victims were 38-year-old Dawnette Sigmon and her two children, ages 14 and 16.

According to police, Johnson took a knife and stabbed Sigmon after a verbal fight turned physical. Police said Johnson also stabbed the two children as they tried to help their mother.

Johnson left the scene in his vehicle, and Sigmon died in the hospital. Police found him on August 29. Before being booked, they said the suspect was treated at a hospital for self-inflicted injuries he sustained before the arrest.

Johnson’s next appearance is on September 17.
