Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Legislation sponsored in part by a state lawmaker representing Springfield should make not as much of a burden for permanently disabled residents to get handicap parking placards.
Senate Bill 1256, which Gov. JB Pritzker has signed into law, was sponsored by Senator Steve McClure, (R-Springfield), and allows for the disabled to have those certifications for five years, instead of having to back to a doctor “regularly” to re-submit documentation.
“With this law, we are making sure that people with permanent disabilities no longer face repetitive and burdensome hurdles just to access parking accommodations they rely on,” said McClure, in a news release. “This law addresses a real problem by cutting red tape and making state government work better for the people it serves.”
The measure was sponsored in the House by State Rep. CD Davidsmeyer (R-Murrayville). It was signed into law by Pritzker Aug. 1.
