Grayson guilty of second degree murder

Peoria, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A jury has found Sean Grayson guilty of second-degree murder for the July 6, 2024 death of Sonya Massey. Grayson was a Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy when he shot and killed Massey at her home in unincorporated Springfield.

The verdict was read in court at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the second day of deliberations.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 29, 2026.
