Springfield, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – Governor JB Pritzker is calling on residents to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary by uniting in service throughout 2026. Volunteers can choose their own projects, log their hours with Serve Illinois, and receive a special commemorative certificate.

“Illinoisans throughout history have always come together to help their neighbors,” said Gov. Pritzker. “As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, I encourage everyone to give back to the communities we call home.”

The Illinois United in-Service initiative launches on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 19, and invites residents to participate in volunteer events across the state. Organizations can also post volunteer opportunities to help people connect with causes near them.

Serve Illinois Executive Director Andres Fernandez said, “Volunteering brings out the best in our communities and our nation.” Additional 250th anniversary initiatives this year include a limited-edition keepsake passport of historical and cultural sites, and the Illinois Voices 250 project, which will preserve reflections on the milestone in the Library of Congress.

Illinoisans can find volunteer opportunities, educational resources, and event listings at il250.org.
