Decatur, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – The Illinois State Police have released video of an April confrontation in which Decatur police shot a man after he pointed a crossbow at officers, the agency announced Wednesday.

The incident occurred April 22 at approximately 9:22 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of East William Street regarding an armed subject and followed 54-year-old Michael Boliard into a building in the 400 block of East William Street, where he pointed a crossbow at them. Officers fired their weapons, striking Boliard, and provided medical aid until he was transported to a local hospital.

Boliard was released from the hospital on May 5 and taken into custody. He faces charges of aggravated assault of a peace officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and three counts of threatening a public official. He remains in the Macon County Jail pending court proceedings.

The video was released in consultation with the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office. ISP said after completing its investigation, the case will be turned over to the State’s Attorney’s Office for review.
