Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Illinois State Police (ISP) is investigating an officer-involved shooting Saturday evening that involved a Springfield Police officer.

According to a news release from ISP, the incident started with a stop by Springfield Police at 5:13 p.m. Saturday as part of an investigation, in the 2400 block of Neil Road.

Officials say four people left the vehicle, all of whom had guns.  Shots were then fired, and one of the four was struck.  That person was taken to a hospital where, as of Sunday morning, and was in serious but stable conditions.

ISP says officers provided first aid until EMS could arrive on scene.  They also say that weapons were recovered from the scene.

“ISP Special Agents will complete a thorough, timely, and independent investigation, and once complete, the case will be turned over to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney for review,” said the news release.

Neither the name of the officer, nor of anyone in the vehicle stopped, were released.  It’s not clear if any of the four were arrested.

ISP says the investigation is “active and ongoing.”
