Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A police officer on the job in the Chicago suburb of Hanover Park is a target of the Illinois Freedom Caucus.
“This is a nightmare come true,” said State Rep. Chris Miller (pictured) (R-Hindsboro), the caucus chair. “A nightmare predicted two years ago by members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus,” when a new law “provided a pathway for non-citizens to become police officers.”
Another caucus member invoked the Sonya Massey Act, meant to tighten restrictions on the police hiring process.
“Every lawmaker and stakeholder who lobbied and voted for that bill should be outraged,” said State Rep. Dave Friess (R-Red Bud). “outraged by this illegal alien police officer who broke the law, federal law, who lost his job with the immigration paperwork issue. He lied on his polygraph. He has committed a federal crime every moment he carries a gun on U.S. soil, yet where are the activists? Nowhere to be seen.”
Authorities have said the officer is authorized to work as a police officer in the U.S.
