IL Dems want to melt ICE

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Immigration raids on Chicago area neighborhoods have families scared, and that’s where legislation Illinois House Democrats are talking about comes in.

“We are negotiating a new substantive law to protect Illinois from hostile law enforcement tactics in hospitals, courthouses, and other locations where all people should feel safe,” said State Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar (pictured, at mic) (D-Romeoville).

State Rep. Will Guzzardi (standing, second from left) (D-Chicago) says he can notice the fear. “This is happening in all of our communities to hundreds of families,” said Guzzardi. “I took my kid to the park, and I live in a very diverse community, and I look around the park, and it’s only white people. There are helicopters buzzing overhead, and Latino families in my community do not want to go out and take their kids to play, because they are afraid they will be kidnapped off the street, no matter their status.”

Republicans say if local police were allowed to cooperate with ICE, and if Illinois were not a “sanctuary state,” this wouldn’t be happening.

The second week of fall veto session is underway through Thursday.
