Funeral services continue for victims of Chatham crash

Chatham, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Three funeral services remain for the victims of the crash at the YNOT After School Camp on April 28. Four girls were killed and six others were injured in the crash when a Jeep, driven by a Chatham woman, left the roadway and crashed through the building at 301 Breckenridge Rd. in Chatham.

Funeral services were held on Friday at Springfield First United Methodist Church for Ainsley Johnson of Chatham. Burial followed at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.

Visitation for Rylee Britton will be from 3–7 p.m. Monday at Cherry Hills Church at 2125 Woodside Rd in Springfield. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday at Cherry Hills Church. Funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Cherry Hills Church. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.

Visitation for Kathryn Corley will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Church of the Little Flower at 800 Adlai Stevenson Dr. in Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Church of the Little Flower. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.

A celebration of life for Alma Buhnerkempe will be held on Saturday from 12-5 p.m. at the TRN Club at 25 Lakewood Dr. in Chatham. Anyone as encouraged to wear pink or purple in Alma’s honor.

Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said the driver, identified as Marianne Akers of Chatham, was not under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances at the time of the crash. Kelly said in a news conference some evidence indicates the possibility of a medical emergency leading up to the crash.
