Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – People attending Thursday morning’s Illinois Chamber Day in Springfield got to hear from the four legislative leaders.

House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch (pictured, lower right) (D-Hillside) said he gave copies of his favorite book, The Infinite Game, to the other 77 House Democrats.

“I’m not trying to win the game; I’m trying to keep playing,” said Welch. “And when you keep playing, the goal is: I want to get better. I want to do better than I did yesterday.”

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (pictured, upper right) (R-Savanna) could barely hide her dissatisfaction with how the supermajority Democrats are running the state. “We can, and we must, do better,” she said. “That starts with a more predictable tax environment, and it also means stopping policies that make it harder to do business in Illinois.”

Senate Minority Leader John Curran (pictured, upper left) (R-Downers Grove) told the business leaders, “The policies we put in place in this state oftentimes, recently, hamper your ability to create better opportunity, and more, more opportunity, more jobs.”

As for Senate President Don Harmon (pictured, lower left) (D-Oak Park) says he likes to see the state “living within our means, paying down debts, making responsible decisions year after year.

“I’ve tried very hard to make Illinois more like me: boring.”
