Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A crash that killed a Coles County board member and his wife Oct. 24 has raised the ire of members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus, because the driver and passenger in the other vehicle were undocumented immigrants.

The driver, charged with DUI, is from Indiana. The members of the Freedom Caucus draw a direct connection to Gov. JB Pritzker and Illinois’ status as a sanctuary state. The victims are Mike and Gail Clayton.

“We have a lot of questions regarding that,” State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich), “wondering why they were in Illinois, how did they get a hold of this vehicle, were they working across state lines, what was happening. We do have a lot of questions about that, and I’m sure the Indiana legislature – they don’t have a sanctuary state policy, they don’t have a sanctuary city policy, but you have 20 million illegal aliens get across the border under the Biden administration, and you have Illinois inviting them to the state of Illinois and then not allowing law enforcement to work w federal authorities.”

State Rep. Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro), the Freedom Caucus chairman, sums it up this way: “Gov. Pritzker talks about illegal immigrants being his people. Well, guess what. His people are killing our people.”
