Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – You’ll never guess where U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (pictured, right) (D-Ill.) had breakfast Sunday.

“I had breakfast in Copenhagen, Denmark,” Durbin said in Springfield Monday. “I went with a delegation of twelve Democrats, Republicans, House and Senate, to tell the people of the kingdom of Denmark that we have been allies and friends, and we will continue to be.

“This notion that the President of the United States is going to use force to take Greenland is an outrage. That would be the end of the NATO alliance, and that would bring instability and competition into this country and this world that we don’t need.”

You read that correctly: Republicans were part of the trip.

“A few have the courage to speak out,” said the senator. “Lisa Murkowski is one of them, from Alaska. So is Thom Tillis of North Carolina. They were both part of this delegation.”

In wanting to seize territory, Durbin compares Trump to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

Another local Democrat, U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski (pictured, left) (D-Springfield), said it’s time for the President to turn his attention to domestic issues.

“We’re not looking for foreign wars right now,” Budzinski said Monday. “We’re looking for ways to maintain health care affordability in this country, so people can afford their health care, people can feed their families, seeing rising costs go up. We need the President to focus on the people here at home.”

Both local lawmakers attended Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast in Springfield.
