Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – City Water, Light, and Power is celebrating “Public Power Week” by highlighting the benefits of Springfield residents having electric services that they own. Doug Brown, Chief Utilities Engineer, talks with Will Stevenson on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.
Doug Brown shared that for City Water Light and Power (CWLP), celebrating Public Power week is about their commitment to “local control, keeping a priority on what matters most to their customers, and providing the most reliable service possible in an affordable and responsible manner “.
One of the ways they do that is through low rates. Brown stated, “our average rates are about 25% lower than the state average for an average customer.” Brown estimates that translates into about 30 to 35 dollars a month in savings. That savings is even higher in the summer when companies like Ameren see a significant increase in rates due to the capacity market auctions.
Brown says that because CWLP generates its power as well as distributing it, they provide a higher level of reliability locally.
