Champaign, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – A construction worker was killed in an overnight crash in a work zone on eastbound Interstate 74 in Champaign County Wednesday, prompting a lengthy highway closure and major traffic delays.

Authorities said the crash happened in the eastbound lanes of I-74 within an active construction area. Emergency crews responded to the scene overnight, where one construction worker was pronounced dead.

Officials said the roadway has since been cleared and normal traffic flow has resumed through the corridor. The closure had been in place while crews responded to and investigated the scene.
