(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Central Illinois brewery is raising a glass to local agriculture by brewing its latest beer with corn grown on a Knox County farm. DESTIHL Brewery, based in Normal, teamed up with the Illinois Farm Bureau to create Roots Lager, a beer that highlights the contributions of Illinois farmers.

The grain for the Munich Helles-style lager comes from the farm of Les Potts. His son, Matt Potts, is the founder and CEO of DESTIHL Brewery, making the collaboration a family affair.

“Using corn from our family farm in Roots Lager is a full circle moment for me,” Matt Potts said. “The beer turned out great, and while I may be a bit biased knowing that my dad’s corn is in it, the corn contributes an added, very pleasant flavor dimension to the beer.  Our brewmaster did an excellent job with this recipe to highlight Illinois corn.”

The Illinois Farm Bureau, which has supported farmers for more than a century, sees the partnership as a unique way to showcase the value of its work.

“We are always looking for fun, innovative ways to tell people about the value of an Illinois Farm Bureau membership,” said IFB President Brian Duncan. “Illinois Farm Bureau gives its members an advantage through impactful advocacy, trusted information and meaningful development to support their careers and Illinois farm families.”

Roots Lager features a golden hue, delicate malt sweetness, and subtle floral hop aromas, finishing with a smooth, crisp taste. It’s available at DESTIHL’s Beer Hall and Restaurant in Normal and select retailers. The beer will be served at DESTIHL Brewery’s Beer Hall and DESTIHL Restaurant in Normal. It will also be made available for purchase at select retailers. For more information on where to purchase Roots Lager, visit: https://destihl.com/find-our-beers.
