Carlson: Count me in

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It’s time to campaign, and Ald. Brad Carlson (pictured) told the WTAX Morning Newswatch Wednesday he is ready for another four years. “I’ve enjoyed my first three years,” said Carlson, “and I get two or three calls a day from constituents. This is my full-time job now, and, after some consideration – talking to my wife and, more importantly, my constituents, they seem to be happy with the results.”

The primary is Feb. 23. Mayor Misty Buscher and Treasurer Colleen Redpath Feger have announced re-election plans, and all of the eligible aldermen are expected to make another run. Jim Donelan and Ralph Hanauer cannot run because of term limits.

Last week’s vote to transfer the Y Block to the state “comes down to resources,” said Carlson. “The location is tremendous, and I asked some questions early on. It’s a valuable piece of property – can we sell it? There is sort of some trouble there because you can only really develop on about half of it, because there are some sewer lines down there and flood development that’s just too shallow, so you can’t develop over it. Hopefully we get the BOS (Center) expansion, and hopefully this just goes along with that expansion in trying to move bodies back downtown.”
