Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – It’s not yet known just what kind of severe weather did it Wednesday night, but whatever it was, Mother Nature did not spare the Animal Protective League.

The storms made the Taintor Road facilities almost unrecognizable.

“(The storms) did significant damage.  I think our shelter is totaled,” said Deana Corbin, Executive Director, on the WTAX Morning Newswatch.  “It blew the entire roof off the front half of the building.  Lots of trees down.

Corbin says all the animals in the shelter have been accounted for, and none are hurt.  She says foster parents are still needed for some pets, and monetary donations will likely be needed to help with whatever they decide to do next.

“You really have to take a beat, and kind of assess where you’re going and what the next step is,” said Corbin.  “We’ve got some great partners that are reaching out to help us, and we’re going to figure it out.  The animals are safe, and the people are safe, and the rest of it can be rebuilt.”

Corbin says all the people always willing to help show what is great about Springfield.

Meanwhile, virtually across the street at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, damage was also sustained.  A number of hangars were damaged, among other pieces.  Efforts to contact airport Executive Director Mark Hanna late Thursday morning were unsuccessful.
