Springfield, IL (WAND) – The Illinois State Fair will host southern rock band 38 Special for a free concert at the grandstand stage this year.

“The Illinois State Fair is one of the best opportunities we have each year to bring people together from every corner of our state,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “Offering a free grandstand concert like this ensures more families can be part of the experience and enjoy everything the fair has to offer.”

38 Special has brought their signature blast of guitar-driven southern rock to audiences around the world for over five decades. The band has sold over 30 million albums, known for hits like “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up in You,” and “Rockin’ Into the Night.”

“We’re always looking for ways to enhance the value of a day at the fair,” said Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Jerry Costello II. “Bringing in a band with the legacy and energy of 38 Special for a free show is a great way to make the grandstand accessible and memorable for everyone.”

The show will be on Monday, August 17. Gates will open at 7 p.m. and no ticket is required.

The state fair starts on August 13 and runs through August 23.
