Springfield, Illinois – On February 24, 2021, the Illinois State Police arrested Springfield Police Officer Taylor Staff, a three-year veteran of the department. The Springfield Police administration requested ISP conduct an independent criminal investigation after members of the department brought forward allegations of misconduct by Staff. The alleged incidents occurred while Staff was on-duty between January and July of 2020 and involved three separate victims. The results of the ISP investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for Staff charging him with official misconduct, criminal sexual assault, and custodial sexual misconduct.
Taylor Staff has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the Springfield Police Department’s internal affairs investigation. Due to this being a personnel matter, the Springfield Police Department will not comment any further.
