Illinois Killer’s Extradition Pending with Missouri Governor

A Missouri prosecutor says convicted Illinois killer Nicholas Sheley’s extradition paperwork remains with Gov. Jay Nixon.

Jefferson County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Steve Jerrell says there’s no timeline for the Missouri governor to act in the case. Sheley is awaiting trial for the Missouri killings of an Arkansas couple during a deadly 2008 crime spree. He has been convicted of six slayings in Illinois and is serving life sentences.

However unlike Illinois, Missouri has the death penalty. But Missouri prosecutors haven’t said if they will pursue it in Sheley’s case.

Prosecutors say they filed Sheley’s extradition paperwork with Nixon nearly seven weeks ago. They say when Nixon acts he will formally ask the Illinois governor to approve Sheley’s extradition to the Jefferson County jail in Hillsboro, Missouri.
