The Illinois Department of Insurance has a new on-line tool to find insurance money with a “Life Policy Locator” service. It’s designed to help legal representatives, members of the deceased person’s immediate family and executors locate a life insurance policy or annuity left by a loved one.

Acting Director Anne Melissa Dowing says with the new, free service, consumers can request help from the DOI to simplify the process of locating lost life insurance policies. As of December 31, 2015, the Illinois Department of Insurance has recovered proceeds of more than $213 million dollars for more than 11,000 beneficiaries.
