IL Times bounces Rushton

One of Springfield’s better known – and more abrasive – reporters is out of a job.

The Illinois Times fired Bruce Rushton (pictured) because of his behavior at a news conference June 16 about the death of a Sangamon County jail inmate.

A statement on the paper’s web site from owner Fletcher Farrar says, ““We do not condone such behavior. That’s not who we are. Reporters are held to a high standard.”

A video on Twitter shows at least part of what led Farrar to fire Rushton, who has also worked at the State Journal-Register.

Rushton Friday told WTAX News, “All I have ever wanted to do was journalism, and I hope I get the chance to do it again.”

Rushton and WTAX’s Dave Dahl have occasionally appeared together on Capitol View on public tee vee station WSEC.
