The Sangamon County coroner says 11 year old Destiny Kling died Thursday evening after being shot in the 300 block of Wintergreen Drive. State police say Chatham police responded to a 911 call just before 5 p.m., and the coroner says the girl was pronounced dead around 6:15 p.m.

Ball-Chatham School District notified its families Friday of the “sudden passing” of Destiny Kling, a sixth-grade student at Glenwood Intermediate School. The school district’s notice, which advised families as to how to help children cope with a classmate’s death, did not explicitly say Kling is the shooting victim.
